I Moved!
July 1, 2025!
My boyfriend and I got a place together right in the heart of Lincoln Park Chicago, and I love it!
At first, I was weary about moving to the Lincoln Park neighborhood, after living in Old Town. I loved the urban city feel that Old Town offered, while Lincoln Park was a bit more quiet, and our building is nestled into a neighborhood.
After being in our new place for about a week, I quickly realized how much more I like this part of town. There are SO many charming local shops nearby, there are tons of local restaurants for sit down and take out, and the cherry on top is that we are a 4 minute walk to the (arguably) best brown line train stop there is, we love you Armitage!
My old roommate and one of my best friends works at the local sports bar basically across the street called Kincades. Kincades is actually a KU bar, which is fine…. I think. EMAW.
Our new apartment has exposed brick, dark wood, and its two floors, living room, kitchen, and half bath on the main floor, and two bedrooms, a loft area, and a full bathroom upstairs. Only downfall is it is a two story walk up and I currently have the world's smallest splinter in my foot from our wood floors.
Over the weekend, we finally unpacked all the boxes and started settling in quite nicely. I LOVE having my own kitchen, I have already made a couple meals, baked bread, and am working on perfecting my homemade orange chocolate chip cookie recipe.
Truly the biggest battle thus far was figuring out where to put the TV in the living room so Jacob could comfortably watch sports from every seat in the living room, and I approved the aesthetics of the situation.
Upcoming this weekend, we have a housewarming party for all of our friends to come see the new place. One of my favorite things is hosting, and we now have the perfect place to do so.
Where We Ate Our First Week in the Neighborhood:
Old Pueblo Cantina: Home of the cheese crisp—think Mexican pizza. The margaritas were amazing, and the tacos were packed with quality ingredients. The salsa had a nice cilantro kick and just the right amount of heat, the chips were thin and crispy, and the guacamole was fresh and delicious.
Annette’s Ice Cream: This cash-only stand was the perfect sweet treat after walking around the neighborhood. They serve Italian ice, frozen yogurt, and tons of ice cream flavors. The frozen yogurt twist cone reminded me of Braum’s back in Kansas—one of the few things I really miss. Pro tip: Annette’s "Anniversary Ice Cream" is birthday cake flavor, not wedding cake. Important distinction.
SUMO Sushi & Hibachi (Lakeview East): Not your typical Kansas-style grill-in-front-of-you experience, but still delicious. We skipped sushi this time and went straight for the hibachi—great ingredients and super friendly staff.
And to top off our first week, we spent the 4th of July at Wrigley Field, where the Cubs hit eight home runs and broke the record! It was hands down the most fun and exciting baseball game I’ve ever been to.
